level location

So far the the idea for my level is for the race to begin at a farm and then to go through the moors, woods and then come through a tunnel, and then end at the start of the town. I was thinking along the same lines already but luckily all the areas were in Richard's map drawing so it fits pretty well in that sense.
I've started drawing some of the specific locations but will need to run it by somebody first. My main concern is that it's not as efficient as the level we saw where the overall area was relatively small with the track zig-zagging through the town rather than my idea of going in more of a direct path.

This doodle doesn't really show corners or the actual race track layout as such, it only really shows the general location.

Game Tracks

Need for Speed ~3 mins A to B.

Diddy kong racing and f-zero less than 1 minute per lap.

I looked at a few of the racing games i remember enjoying to see how the tracks were layed out. The slower games like diddy kong racing and mario kart seem to be quite simple with a focus on corners. Faster ones like Need for Speed and F-zero had more straights than the others, I guess to give the player a chance to get up to high speed, something not so important in slower moving racing games. I'll have to see how the Igford cars move to give me a better idea of how it should be.

some more photos

A couple more pictures I took on wednesday before returning the camera.

Photos

So I took a camera out to take some pictures of things that I thought may be interesting and relevant, will need to look for more examples of old style houses and shops to go with them.

I also have more photos of trees and stuff.

First post

So far I've looke a little into different builing types that were around during the victorian era (Queen Anne, Jacobethan, Gothic, Scots Baronial could all be worth looking into a bit more, not sure yet if they are all relevant).

Found a few books that may be worth looking at
Victorian Architecture
  • ISBN-10: 1904965067
  • ISBN-13: 978-1904965060

Victorian Architectural Details: Designs for Over 700 Stairs, Mantels, Doors, Windows, Cornices, Porches, and Other Decorative Elements

ISBN-10: 048644015X
ISBN-13:
978-0486440156

I'll carry on looking at those as well as looking into what was around in more rural areas and different countryside landscapes.

I'll also be looking at tracks in existing games, need for speed and mario kart, as well as gta4 for more urban areas.
